At Grove Street Family Dentistry we use cutting-edge dental technology to provide you with safe, fast, and effective results!
Digital X-rayIn the past, most dental professionals had to use the traditional x-ray systems, which require film development. These days, we use digital x-rays due to their many benefits. A digital x-ray is safer and much quicker than its film predecessor. If the image comes out blurry, we can instantly retake a new one. Digital x-rays are a crucial diagnostic tool that helps us gain a better understanding of the inner workings of your mouth, more specifically the teeth, roots, and alveolar bone.
Intraoral CameraAn intraoral camera is a handheld appliance that is shaped like a wand. The tiny camera at the tip of the appliance takes hundreds of pictures per second to capture an in-depth and accurate image of your mouth. This image is sometimes used to create a digital impression of your teeth and gums. A digital impression is particularly useful for same-day dental crowns.
Air Abrasion (Kinetic Cavity Preparation)Serving as an alternative to a traditional dental drill, an air-abrasion system is primarily used to treat small cavities, preserving healthy tooth structure without the use of a local anesthetic. Air-abrasion allows for the precise removal of decay through a blast of pellets consisting of air and aluminum oxide. The air-abrasion technique can also be used to help repair old tooth restorations by accessing difficult areas such as those between the teeth.
The Wand Anesthesia SystemThe Wand is a computerized tool that can deliver anesthesia in a slow and methodic manner. The sensation of pain often associated with an injection is caused as a result of the pressure of the liquid being injected. The slow and gentle delivery associated with The Wand often makes injections painless. The delivery holder is small and easy for the dentist to use.
Utrasonic ScalerWe use an ultrasonic scaler and other electric handpieces to perform cleanings and treat periodontal (gum) disease. An ultrasonic scaler produces microscopic bubbles that implode on the surface of your teeth. These implosions remove the plaque and tartar deposits from your teeth while killing harmful bacteria. Unlike metal handpieces, the ultrasonic scaler does not put your enamel at risk for additional damage.
Digital ImpressionsThe procedure for a digital impression is quick and minimally invasive. During your procedure, Tania Tran, DMD or one of our dental assistants will use an intraoral scanner system, usually a pen-shaped device with a camera at the tip. The scanner is connected with special software that produces your impression.
An intraoral camera takes hundreds of pictures of your mouth, all while you watch on a chairside monitor. Our software then pieces together these images to create a highly accurate, three-dimensional representation of your teeth and gums. The entire process takes anywhere from 45 seconds to a minute and a half!
