How Long Does it Take to Recover from Oral Surgery

How Long Does it Take to Recover from Oral SurgeryFor individuals with busy schedules, taking a break from work to recover after surgery can be frustrating. This has made it complicated for many people to undergo common surgical procedures. People usually want assurance of quick recovery before undergoing any type of surgical procedure. This is especially true when it comes to cosmetic dentistry procedures.

How Quick Can a Person Resume Normal Life

Typically you will be required to take a rest of 24 to 78 hours after dental surgery. In most cases, this means avoiding highly demanding jobs. The break is necessary for you to recover your strength before moving forward with your normal life. If your operation is a minor one such as tooth extraction, you may only be required to rest for 12 hours and go back to your job.

The Time You Need for Complete Recovery

After resuming normal life, there are still a few steps you should take to help complete your recovery. Among these steps include monitoring your food. You should not take hard and crunchy foods. Avoid anything that will require heavy tearing or chewing.

Typically, you should fully recover from a minor surgery within 2 to 3 weeks. However, you should not wait for such a long period of time before you resume normal activities. You may start eating normal foods within one week of the surgery.

Bottom line

Ideally, you should never rush the healing process after surgery. It is advisable to stick to the guidelines provided by your dentist. If you feel that you could start doing some duties much earlier than recommended by your dentist, make sure you are cautious. This should only apply in a situation where it is absolutely mandatory for you to work or eat and you feel that your body is ready.
