Are You Sticking to Your Oral Health Goals?

Posted on 2/7/2022 by Office
Are You Sticking to Your Oral Health Goals?Setting oral health goals is as important as any other life goal, as they directly impact your health, esteem, and social life. While the goals revolve around a daily and routine habit, they require personal discipline to stick to them throughout your lifetime, and if you do, you are sure to reap physical and mental benefits. The dental goals you should set include a daily oral routine, a healthy diet, and regular checkups.

Daily Oral Routine

After investing in the right toothbrush, you should brush your teeth daily using the correct technique and fluoride toothpaste. Also, you should start flossing your teeth regularly. This is because brushing removes most mouth bacteria and food debris but does not clean the spaces between your teeth. This allows plaque to accumulate, causing gum disease and tooth decay.

Healthy Diet

A healthy diet will promote both your oral and overall health. For good oral health, stick to a diet rich in whole grains, vegetables, and fruits due to fiber content that helps in plaque removal. The extra chewing due to the high fiber also stimulates salivary flow, cleaning and refreshing your mouth. These foods are also rich in vitamins and minerals, which keep gum disease and oral issues at bay. You should also limit sugar intake as sugars act as food for mouth bacteria which release acids and cause tooth decay. Committing to drinking plenty of water will also keep your mouth hydrated and combat bad breath.

Schedule Regular Dental Appointments

Even with a healthy diet and good oral hygiene practices, you still need to schedule regular dental visits with us. We will examine your mouth for gum disease, tooth decay, and oral cancer during these visits and administer appropriate treatment. We will also clean your mouth to remove accumulated plaque. Other goals you should stick to include lifestyle choices such as quitting alcohol and smoking, which are harmful to your teeth. For more details on oral health goals, contact our office today.
