Which Parts of Your Mouth Should You Focus on Most?

Which Parts of Your Mouth Should You Focus on Most? The age-old adage of has always been to wash your hands. This makes sense as a child's hands are everywhere; in the dirt, on the basketball, playing with toys on the floor, and everywhere in between. It is important to wash your hands. However, it may be a good idea to think of other places where bacteria choses to live as well. Did you think of your mouth?

Your Mouth is a Home to Bacteria

Your mouth has hundreds of different types of bacteria living inside of it at any given moment. These bacteria feed off the food debris left on your teeth. As they do, they produce acids that can dissolve the enamel on your teeth. The bacteria are also responsible for infection in your gums, inflammation in your tissues, and other problems as well. For these reasons, it is important that you pay close attention to the dirtiest parts of your mouth.

The Dirtiest Spots in Your Mouth

Some places in your mouth deserve more attention. While it is important to brush all surfaces of each tooth, there are other dirty places in your mouth as well. Specifically, you should brush your tongue. A lot of bacteria can collect on your tongue. Most of these bacteria are not harmful, but some of them are bad for your enamel. If you do not brush your tongue, the harmful bacteria can multiply and spread to other areas of your mouth. Brush your tongue with your toothbrush. You don't need to brush hard or use any toothpaste on your tongue. Just run the toothbrush over the entire surface of your tongue.

Another dirty part of your mouth is in between your teeth. The spaces in between your teeth can really be dirty if you do not floss. Bacteria gather here easily as your toothbrush cannot reach these spaces. It is important to floss every day.
