Tap Water Could Be the Key to Healthier TeethWe can find one of the best things for your teeth at your kitchen sink. It still surprises some when reminded to use your tap water at home, you bathe your teeth in fluoride.

It is a popular myth that drinking bottled spring water is better for your teeth than tap water. Our office would like to clear that up and explain the benefits you may not know of in drinking tap water from your home.

How Regular Tap Water Fights Cavities and Stains

If you can visualize your mouth as a small ecosystem. You have your saliva bringing minerals and washing bacteria away. You have bacteria regenerating and converting plaque across your teeth. Drinking water throughout the day washes the acids, sugars, and food particles out of your teeth that cause plaque build-up. It's not always possible to brush your teeth in situations like at work or on the road.

Swishing water around can clean and protect your teeth if it's tap water. The reason for this is tap water actually contains fluoride. Almost all bottled water does not. In fact, many bottled waters go through filtering systems to change the flavor. It can result in the removal of fluoride. Some even are almost as acidic as soda.

Fluoride Is Great for Your Teeth

It's important to keep in mind, most public sources of water are a good source of fluoride. Fluoridated water helps fight tooth decay and cavities; It can help restore decaying teeth by sealing them with a layer of protection. This cuts the bacteria on the tooth off from moisture and kills the bacteria, allowing your teeth to heal. Fluoride is important for young children and preteens. Their teeth are constantly growing and fluoride protects them for the duration of that process.

Tap water with fluoride strengthens the entire tooth structure, making it more resistant to decay. It also promotes remineralization, which can repair the early stages of tooth decay. By taking some good old tap water from home to quench your thirst throughout the day. You stay hydrated and protect your teeth until you perform your next brush and floss.
