Basic dental care practices in general dentistry

Basic dental care practices in general dentistryGeneral dentists are our primary caregivers and should be involved in our routine dental habits to ensure oral problems are treated earlier when they first show. General dentistry is also involved in preventive dental care practices to avoid oral diseases. Involving your dentist in your oral routine will go a long way in ensuring your teeth and gums are always healthy.

Dental care practices

One of the most common dental care practices is regular cleaning and examinations. It would be best to visit the dentist at least once every three months for a thorough cleaning and examination. During your regular examination, your dentist will thoroughly inspect your teeth and gums, keeping an eye out for problems, for example, cavities, oral cancer, and gum disease. Dentists may even use digital imaging to access teeth that look affected to make a precise diagnosis.

During a dental checkup, the dentist also cleans your teeth and gums thoroughly. The teeth are thoroughly cleaned and polished, and all built-up tartar and plaque are cleaned out from the teeth surface and gum line. Dentists may then fluoride treat your teeth with gels to harden the enamel, preventing it from easy damage.

Dentists are also involved in restorative procedures like crowns, bridges, and dentures. These dental prostheses improve one's appearance and functionality of the teeth as they are used to misplace missing teeth. Conservative procedures like bonding, sealants, and veneers are other common dental care practices and involve retaining a bright and natural look on your teeth. They are less expensive cosmetic dental care practices and are used on front and back teeth.

Tooth extractions are another common dental care practice and involve removing overly damaged teeth that risk infection to nearby teeth or gums. Dental practitioners take part in simple extraction procedures of teeth that are visible and help bring relief and harmony to a paining tooth.
