What Proteins Provide Your Mouth

How Proteins Benefit Dental Health

You can gain a lot of good nutrition if you include proteins in your diet, especially when it comes to your teeth and gums' health. Poultry, eggs, fish, and lean cuts of meat will not only keep you trim and fit, but they will also support the health of your gums and teeth. The protein, B3 (niacin), and phosphorus in the foods help the teeth and gums stay strong and functional. Vitamin B3 is found in both chicken and fish. Therefore, eating protein builds up your enamel and remineralize your teeth so they will not wear down, as they tend to do when you consume processed selections of food.

Which Proteins Are the Best for Teeth?

The proteins that are the best for teeth are lean meats, cheese, and nuts, all of which do not put the teeth at risk for cavities. You can complement your protein intake with fruits, such as berries and leafy greens, such as spinach and kale.

What About Protein Shakes?

You have to be careful about consuming protein shakes, as many of the products contain a load of sugar. While the protein is, no doubt, good for your teeth, the extra sugar can be detrimental to your oral health. To benefit from a protein shake, it is best to add a protein powder with milk and berries in a blender. That way, you will avoid excess sugar. Keep the primary focus on fresh and lean cuts of meat, nuts, and dairy, such as cheese.
